“Becoming Helen Keller” is a documentary on the life and legacy of the great author, activist, lecturer, and force for disability rights. The two-hour film will reclaim Helen Keller’s extraordinary story and historical importance, and illuminate how she became one of the 20th century’s human rights pioneers. It will be broadcast on PBS as part of American Masters, with an anticipated airdate of October 2021. The AVDF grant will provide completion funds for production and for an outreach campaign that uses the occasion of the broadcast to foster awareness of inclusion and accessibility and helps make public media itself more accessible on all its platforms.
