The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) grant will support the work of the Campus Free Expression Project (CFEP) for one year and promote the use of its resources to strengthen free expression and civil discourse at over 640 independent colleges and universities. The CFEP aims to restore open discourse on college campuses to create independent thinkers and engaged citizens, providing resources to equip presidents, trustees, faculty members, and student affairs leaders with strategies to succeed at building a culture of open inquiry. CIC will first release Campus Free Expression: A New Roadmap, with current, tailored advice for presidents, trustees, faculty members, and student affairs administrators. CIC will also provide programming for faculty and administrators, including 3 webinars offering practical guidance on fostering civil discourse to different stakeholders on campus and hands-on training to academic leaders on supporting free expression and open dialogue during leadership development programs, including the Institute for Chief Academic Officers, the Presidents Institute, and the Executive Leadership Academy. Through these events, CIC will amplify the work of the CFEP to over 300 independent college and university campuses.
