In order to promote greater awareness and fluency between Americans of different religious backgrounds, Tablet magazine will extend the previous AVDF fellowship for an additional two years, for a religion writer at Tablet to cover the interfaith/religious literacy beat by producing articles on Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and other faith communities, and to be a model for a new kind of religious reporting dedicated to in-depth, sympathetic portrayals of diverse faith practices accessible to wide audiences. Thanks to previous grants, Tablet has already developed a structure for producing these stories and have cultivated a readership that enjoys and anticipates them. The goal is to build on the great work done together with funding from previous grants–and to do so with a streamlined new budget that actually reduces costs.
