WETA is requesting $300,000 for the documentary film, The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, which will be produced and hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. This film series will honor Douglass’s remarkable life as a renaissance man, social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. In doing so, it will encourage viewers to embrace new ways of looking at African American culture, history, race, and identity. Deliverables include original film, news, and digital content; DVDs; educational materials created for PBSLearningMedia.org; and public engagement opportunities across the PBS system
